India 55th most competitive economy, moves up 16 positions

In a big jump, India has moved up 16 positions to rank 55th on a global index of the world’s most competitive economies, where Switzerland continues to remain on top.
The jump in India’s position underlines the country’s recent economic recovery, improvement in institutions’ competitiveness, macroeconomic environment and a “slight improvement” in infrastructure, the World Economic Forum (WEF) said in its latest Global Competitiveness report

New draft education policy by December
The Times of India, September 26, 2015

Efforts are underway to prepare the draft of a new education policy by December with involvement of people at the district level, Union HRD minister Smriti Irani said on Saturday.
“Till now, education policies were prepared by some persons at the national level, but people at ground level were never asked,” she said.
Irani said that on how new education policy should take shape, she was holding meetings with education minister of every state and district magistrates.

IAS officers given time till November 30 to find way to simplify at least two government processes
