New education policy to implement next year

The Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has decided to replace a committee constituted by the former HRD Minister Smriti Irani with a new committee headed by educationist to set up a new education policy in the country. However, the HRD Ministry proclaimed that the head of the committee for drafting new education policy would be announced after November 10.

National Skill Plan to be ready by March next year

The Ministry wants to set up multi-skill iconic training centres as model skill centres in every district of the country through soft loan support provided by National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

Having accorded top priority to skill development, the government now aims to impart skills to around 40 crore people by 2022 for which it will formulate a national plan by March 2017.

Govt plans to amend medical council Bill

The central government plans to amend the Medical Council of India (MCI) Bill, to be renamed the National Medical Commission (NMC) Bill.
Government sources told Business Standard 15,000 suggestions had been made. Largely, states are asking for more powers. Further, some states want a higher number of regulated seats, in terms of fees. NITI Aayog had recommended 40 per cent of seats be regulated.
