CUTS Secretary General Appointed to T20 South Africa Advisory Role
Knowledge and News Network, May 23, 2025
Pradeep S Mehta, Secretary General of CUTS International, has been appointed as a member of the prestigious Advisory Council of T20 South Africa.
The T20 (Think 20) is the official engagement group of the G20 that brings together leading think tanks and experts to develop policy recommendations for G20 leaders.
The Advisory Council comprises eminent figures from across G20 nations and plays a strategic role in guiding research and multi-stakeholder discussions.
It is jointly convened by South Africa’s Institute for Global Dialogue (IGD), the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA), and the Institute for Pan African Thought and Conversation (IPATC).
Mr Mehta’s appointment reflects his extensive expertise in international policy. He previously served on the T20 International Advisory Council during Brazil’s G20 presidency and is currently a member of the WTO Director-General’s NGO Advisory Board.
CUTS International has also collaborated with SAIIA and IGD on global economic projects involving South Africa.
Speaking on the honour, Mehta said, “This opportunity will help CUTS amplify the Global South’s voice. South Africa’s G20 presidency offers a unique moment to push for inclusive development and sustainability.”
He added, “This is a continuation of what India championed during its 2023 presidency by securing permanent membership for the African Union in the G20. We must carry that spirit of inclusiveness forward.”
T20 South Africa will support the Presidency’s priorities of Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability by focusing on areas such as inclusive economic growth, sustainable finance, and governance reform.
With its presence across Asia, Africa, and policy hubs like Geneva and Washington DC, CUTS International brings grassroots perspectives to global dialogues. Founded over 40 years ago, the organisation is dedicated to public policy shaped by consumer sovereignty and social justice.
