In a special televised speech, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today announced new schemes to provide subsidised housing for the urban and rural poor. “To help the middle class and the poor buy or build homes, the government has brought two schemes under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana,” PM Modi said.

The state cabinet has decided to constitute the Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) along the lines of the all India Civil Services such as the IAS. It will cover 30 major departments of the state government. The implementation of the KAS is expected to address the issue of shortage of officials, which has often forced the government to handover the charge of two or three departments to one single official.

Union human resource development minister Prakash Javadekar on Monday said a new committee will be set up soon to draft the national education policy.
Javadekar said besides the “inputs” from the TSR Subramanian committee, the final draft will take into account all new suggestions that have been received via online and offline modes.
